Clients approach me with their own unique set of circumstances and I find it extremely rewarding to be able to use my knowledge and experience to meet their needs.
During the early stages of my Independent Practice, the majority of clients were booked for care with their local regional maternity unit, with specialist obstetric and neonatal expertise. These clients had existing challenges that they were having to cope with. They wanted the assurance and continuity of care a named Midwife could provide - one they could call upon at their convenience, have the time to discuss things through in order to help make decisions about how they wanted their care to be managed. I supported the local unit both on a part-time contractual basis and on the staff bank. This allowed me to provide birth care to my clients at the time and also, support the unit as a whole as well. This is an example where support and advocacy worked well thanks to the NHS senior management and obstetric teams responding very positively, to collaborative working with myself as an Independent Midwife Practitioner, all to benefit my clients and NHS patients.
